I moved to Watford with my partner in February 2022 from Birmingham. It was a new chapter in our lives and an exciting adventure for both of us. We are now preparing for our next adventure of traveling the world for a year. We have the fortunate opportunity to take a 12-month sabbatical and explore the world together.
To reflect on my recent years at Watford Rugby Club, it has become a home not just for me, but for my partner as well. The inclusive nature and family focus of the club is something I haven’t experienced from a rugby club before. I was welcomed with open arms from the get-go and got stuck straight in. It helps to have an open mind and a willingness to give it your all, and Watford Rugby Club will give you exactly the same in return. I wear the stag on my chest with pride when I step onto the pitch with people I will call friends for life.
The atmosphere down at Radlett Road is impeccable on both match days and training nights. Whether it’s getting muddy on a cold February evening, putting 50 points against an opposition on a Saturday, or getting stuffed against a strong opponent, we do it first and foremost together as a club and with a smile on our faces. From the captains to the social secretaries to the bar staff and all the other important roles within the club, I really feel like I have been welcomed into a family.
On my year away, my partner and I are aiming to visit as many countries as possible. We are starting in India and flying east until we reach the UK again. I look forward to sharing my travel pictures and stories with you all, and I’m excited to hear everything I’ve missed. We may even see some fellow Watford RFC members along the way.
I will miss everyone during my year backpacking, but rest assured, I will come back home.
