On a mild and very wet day (perfect for rugby) Watford hosted Chinnor U16’s girls in a league game for the very first time. With only 14 players Chinnor kindly offered to loan Watford a player for each half. And a great two halves of rugby they were.

Both teams went through the phases well, probing and challenging the respective defences. But with the difficult wet conditions they were a few knock-ons and then obviously a few scrums.

Zara managed to break the Chinnor defensive line and look to be on her way to scoring, when she was brought down by a try saving tackle from Chinnor.

With some more probing and possession Watford got their just deserves with a great determined try from Izzy. What was even better was the tight angled conversion from Charlotte that gave Watford 7-0 lead in the first half. Chinnor came out fighting in the second half and scored a try but couldn’t convert it. 7-5 Watford.

They may have gone over again but for Watford’s resolute defending. Without any subs Watford’s hunger and desire was there till the end. They came close to a scoring from the line out and had one held up. Ultimately the only difference between the teams at the end, a great conversion!! Watford win 7-5.

It was a well fought contest, played in the right spirit. Enjoyed by both players and parents. A credit to girls/women’s rugby.

With her first game under her belt and being told “don’t worry we won’t have many scrums” Amelie at Prop was coach’s player of the match.

Chinnor voted Zara as their Watford player of the match.
