Winning streak continues

Sunday 21st October has been very enjoyable for a number of reasons. The weather was glorious (is it really October?) and we all know it’s far nicer to be dry when watching your favourite U13 team play. Late kick off at 12pm meant mums and dads could enjoy a bit of a leisurely Sunday morning before the match. Our boys have continued to display winning form, with a superb 14-2 victory over our friends from the other side of town, Chess Valley.

We made a strong and impactful start to the match with five tries scores by Watford in the first 12 minutes of the match, including three from Aaron, and one each by Aiden and Jimmy. Chess Valley gained possession of the ball and looked likely to score, however a series of handling errors denied them and Watford turned over the ball to us right on their try line, booting it right back into our half. A scrum ensued with Chess Valley winning the ball, however a smackingly hard tackle by Max Bil (the smack could be heard at the other end of the pitch!) resulted in Watford gaining possession and after a big run from Cameron hotly pursued by the opposition we gained our sixth try of the match.

Chess Valley got one back around 20 minutes into the game, followed by another try from Aaron running the length of the pitch, and an epic try from Max Bil right on the half time whistle bringing us to 8-1 ahead at half time.

The action continued right from the whistle announcing the start of the second half, Aaron scoring his fifth try with the first play. Second try of the match for Cameron who snatched the ball from the opposition and sprinted to the try line in their confusion. Aaron played a game of duck and dodge to score yet another try, and then Chess Valley scored their second try despite a two person tackle on their player at the try line. Cameron got the ball down for what could have been his hat-trick, but this was disallowed and a penalty awarded to the other side. Yet another try from Aaron (it’s very easy to lose count by now!). After a free kick from 5 metres, Aiden powered through the defence to score his second try of the match. One final try from Alex who used all his power to break through the Chess Valley defensive line and get the ball down just shortly before the full time whistle.

After the match, both teams joined together for their post-match speeches, and awarding Man of the Match. Following Chess Valleys tradition, two players were picked as MOTM today, one forward and one back. These were Max Bil for a large number of hard tackles as well as scoring a great try and Aiden for his two great tries.

Many of our parents agreed that the boys all showed outstanding skills, and put on a great show of teamwork. Thank you to Chess Valley for making us very welcome and inviting us to participate in their traditional end of game challenge for the MOTM which involved Scampi Flavour Fries (yum!). See you for a rematch in February!
