Royston 2nds v Watford 2nds

Watford travelled to Royston looking to get back on track after a disappointing draw the week before.

Watford started strongly and knocked on the home sides door for the first ten but just couldn't turn possession into points. Then some lacklustre defending ended with Royston's centre picking up from a scrappy line out and dancing through a few tackles to dot down under the sticks 7-0.

With Watford believing they shouldn't be losing stepped it up a gear and prop Hicks attacked down the wing drawing one before popping to young speedster Franklin. who had a lot left to do but showed good pace to beat two Royston players before stepping a third to finish out wide Wilson added the extras 7-7.
Watford then upped it again with roelf making a storming break bouncing two would be tacklers off before offloading to debutant no8 Francois who made it 7-12 with Wilson missing the conversion.
But Watford had smelt blood and attacked at will again. This time Roelf made another break with veteran flanker Bridgey cutting a exquisite line to receive the pass and finish under the posts with the extras added Watford went in at halftime 7-19 up.

Skipper Hicks made it perfectly clear to his team not to take there foot off the gas. And they didn't disappoint starting with centres Giddings and Stewart Who worked well together all afternoon and another fine bit of play from the young centres created space for winger Bearne to show his speed and power by savagely handing off two opponents. To score his first try for the club Wilson once again was spot on from the tee 7-26. Watfords strong pack drove Royston back allowing Francois to pick up from the back of the scrum to score watfords 5th try of the afternoon. with the conversion once again put between the posts the score 7-33.
With Watford in a commanding lead they allowed Royston to get a try back with a well executed move to put the score at 12-33.
But Watford would have the last say with fly half Wilson scoring under the posts to take his points tally to 15 for the day and Watfords to 40 to get a well deserved 12-40 victory.
