Brave Watford come so close

Weston v Watford 2nds

Watford travelled to Weston knowing
It would be a close game. Watford turned up with only 14. And borrowed a player off Weston. While they waited for prop roelfy the game was also started uncontested.

After only 2 minutes Weston showed Watford they were right to expect a tough game with there centre running in a try from his own half. But this woke Watford and they attacked with their pack picking and going from around the fringes. This had the home sides defence stretched but Weston prevented Watford from getting on the score sheet. Watfords number 9 Hill continued his fine run of form by controlling Watford all afternoon even managing to get Watfords 63 yr old winger Jamesy a fair bit of ball. Jamesy who was playing his second game in 8 years never looked like he'd been away. But it was the other ageing superstar who struck for Watford 57 yr old Outside centre Jenkins selling his opposite number a ridiculous dummy before burning him outwide to put watfords first points of the afternoon on the board. With Wilson adding the extras 7-7. Weston then got a penalty just inside the 22 and kicked it for the 3 points 10-7 . In a already gruelling battle Weston threw everything at Watford and after a long period of Watford defending Weston finally found a hole in what so far had been a superb defence to widen the gap to 15-7. The away side once again refused to be beaten and after a fine play from Watfords back line it was Westons winger on loan to Watford who scored for them. with the conversion missed Watford trailed by 3 going in at the break 15-12 .

The second half started and watfords missing man Roelfy finally arrived. This meant the scrums could go contested to Westons delight but the delight was short lived. Westons larger pack couldn't live with watfords sheer drive power and control now Watford had a solid platform. They attacked up hill with purpose And after a line out was won by Connelly. another superb drive by Watford this time a rolling maul as Watford edged ever closer to there oppositions line Westons defence stood strong. But as Hill shipped the ball out wide for what looked a certain try the refs whistle went and a pen given to the home side. Against prop Roelfy having been judged to knee his opposite number. The next 20 minutes was pretty much the same Watford dominating in scrum and maul and Weston defending brilliantly. With Watford still going for it a scuffle broke out and the away sides fly half Wilson was given a rest for the final minutes for throwing a punch. After that tired but gutsy Watford were hit on the counter not once but twice for Weston to claim the win 27-12.
