Watford 2nd XV travelled away to a very good Weston side looking to make it three league wins from three.

Watford were without some key personnel due to a large number of unavailability’s, starting poorly and struggling up front against a large Weston pack. The home sides pressure soon showed and they opened the scoring with a converted try after ten minutes, crossing again before the break to take a 14-0 lead into half time.

Watford started the better of the two sides in the second half, debutant fly half Simon showing he will be a good addition to the club running several good attacking lines as well as making some fine tackles. The visitors unfortunately failed to get on the score sheet, Weston scoring two more well worked tries for 28-0. However, Watford refused to give up. 61 year old prop Den Reilly came on to show the younger Weston prop how it’s done with some excellent scrummaging. Things got worse for Watford when skipper George Hicks was harshly binned for not retreating 10 from a penalty, but the visitors showed they hadn’t lost any determination – vice captain John Portway leading from the front with a fine tackling display. Sadly, Watford couldn’t prevent Weston using their numerical advantage to add another two tries, the game ending Weston 38, Watford 0.
