The Game started with Watford the more threatening of the the two sides. And good backs play by scrum half Bennett and centre lee had Watford positioned well in the visitors half but due to hackneys solid defence the home side couldn't finish the fine play with a score. Watfords pack used there size well and continually pushed and drove the visitors off there own ball with front row roughtley Wilson and hicks leading from the front. However it was hackney who drew first blood with a quickly taken penalty and fine run by there winger to score and convert the first try of the game. Hackney struck again after 35 mins to make it 0-12 to the visitors and could have been more if not for the home sides defence mainly coming from debutant fly half Williams tackling everything around him sadly due to Williams fearless tackling he damaged his ankle just before the break and would play no further part.
With only a few minutes left on the clock for the first half the Watford pack once again drove hackney back from there scrum and allowed no 8 lee returning from a lengthy injury to bulldoze his way over from close range with the try converted by Bennett the home side went into the break 7-12 down.

After being told at half time that they need to up their game. Watford did exactly that with second row Makinson showing his strength with a solid run at hackneys defence and a offload to centre lee who beat three men and scored in the corner 12-12. Watford continued to apply the pressure and from a well worked line out flanker portway gave the pop for lee to score his second try of the game with the kick converted the score was 19-12. Watford clearly rallied from the captains words at half time attacked again this time Bennett kicking a perfectly weighted grubber for himself to catch and ground and move the score to 24-12. Watford then scored again with a well worked move which resulted in portway making a dazy run to score under the sticks and convert his try 31-12 .with a little under 10 mins left Watford were caught napping and hackney scored two tries to make it a nervous final few minutes but Watford saw the game out to win 31-24.

Watford 2nds start their league campaign at home next Saturday the 13th against ovs 2nds
