Watford back to winning ways.

Another close fought affair for Watford following last weeks narrow defeat to Old Millhillians. This time, however Watford emerged victorious against a much improved West London side!

It was the visitors who struck first, going over for a well earned score in the corner, the Watford defence struggling to cope with the Barbarians style offload game the West Londoners were employing, a theme that ran throughout the day! The WL flyhalf added the extras and Watford needed to respond.

Watford 0 West London 7

Watford managed to get some good field position through some good carries from Pitsialis and Hancock, with the rest of the pack making their tackles count. Paul Dunlop found himself in space and threaded a delightful kick through for 1st team debutant Kingsley to score in the corner.

Menzies missed the conversion.

Watford 5 West London 7

There was then a period of back and forth, West London continued to offload and cause problems with Watford continuing to repel them. The Watford lineout was struggling against a scrappy West London pack. Then came a poor clearance straight to the hands of fullback Tom Mcgee. Who duly stepped his way through for Watford’s second score.

Menzies missed conversion.

Watford 10 West London 7

Some ill discipline with time nearly up in the half, the West London fly half slotted a penalty over to draw level.

Watford 10 West London 10

A determined Watford side began to batter the West London line. Carry after carry, line after line, tackle after tackle. Then Bram decided to turn on the charm and with a lovely round the back pass to a rampaging Martin Lee, Watford were over.

Menzies this time converted.

Watford 17 West London 10

Half time.

A scoreless second half for Watford ensued. Another West London penalty drew the visitors closer to set up a tense finish.

Watford 17 West London 13

Some great defence from West London stopped the Watford boys from getting over, Meredith came close by actually clearly grounding the ball over the try line but unfortunately the referee wasn’t in a position to see it down.

West London mounted a late rally going from 22 to 22. But some good defensive pressure saw them fumble and Watford grabbed the win.

Final score
Watford 17 West London 13

WOTW Paul Dunlop
