? Hertfordshire County Tournament – Watford Invincibles U9s
The coaches’ meeting ran a little close to kickoff, so the warm-up was slightly rushed — but the Invincibles were soon into the action!
Game 1 vs Bishop’s Stortford
We faced tough opposition and they struck first while we were still finding our rhythm. That quickly woke the team up and Max replied with a well-worked try. Bishop’s scored again through a speedy runner, but the Invincibles showed great determination with Reuben stepping through to score and keep us in the game. Defensively the team really stepped up. Sulita put in strong tackles and pounced on loose balls for the first of many turnovers on the day, supported by William and Jack pushing the defensive line. Shai also made a storming 30m run down the wing, battling hard to stay in play. William opened his account with some brilliant stepping, and the whole team worked tirelessly in defence with brave tackles from George. In the end we finished just one try short of levelling the game after time was called.
Game 2 vs Harpenden
The team came out focused and fired up. Strong defence and turnovers from Sulita and Reuben gave us the upper hand. Max opened the scoring, followed by tries from Reuben and William, with Max adding another to secure our first win of the day. A great all-round team performance.
Game 3 vs Hitchin
We knew this would be tough against a club with a huge minis section. Hitchin scored first with a well-worked try, but Max responded quickly to show we could score just as well. Sulita struck again with another turnover and Reuben made them chase him 20 metres before being tackled. After a huge hit the ball was recycled brilliantly for William to run in a try. Jack made several powerful runs and was unlucky not to score on one occasion, but soon got his reward after a brilliant offload from William put him through on a great support line. Another excellent game from the Invincibles.
Game 4 vs Barnet
In the final game the Invincibles were unstoppable. William kept adding to his try tally, George continued putting in big tackles and the whole team finished the tournament full of energy and confidence.
