Watford U9 Invincebles Match Report Sunday 23 Nov:

Fionn McGuinness26 Nov - 09:45

The Watford U9 Invincibles took on 3 strong teams, 2 from Saracens and 1 from Tabard, in a tri-fixture morning of Rugby!

This wek we had 3 players out with illness so we knew it would be a tough day at the office...with a player short we had no replacements.

1st game was against Sarries Black. We made a real quick start to the game and the energy levels was high. The kids defended well and ran like the mighty Springboks. It was soon evident that we had a stronger team and there was amazing work from the players. I had to intruduce a two passes rule and then a 3 passes rule to ensure our team worked together and learn that just running away with it would not have been beneficial but speading the ball to other players became the aim.

In the second game against Tabbard, we were able to see they were also a well drilled team but our kids quickly picked up that we had a lot more speed and this nullified their grunt and tenacity, making this game a bit more of an arm wresstle. Tabbard had to go down to 6 players due to a injured player and asked us if we can reduce our players, at this stage I realised we were playing with only 6 against 7 in opposition. This says alot about the caliber of our team!

In the third game against Sarries Red, our kids started to suffer a bit with keeping up the pace, the Sarries teams decided not to play each other in their second game and in the second halve of this game it started to show that we were getting tired, while they still had energy to burn. They also had a few speedsters that were able to contain Reuben a bit as he was still a energy bunny.

Players awards:
Game one - Player of the Match was Max for a couple of great try's and being really busy on the field.
Game two - Player of the Match was Leo for his lightning fast try's
Game three - Reuben for never giving up and keeping the defence guessing with some great runs. Team players Award for Shai and Sulita looking for the pass and working together. Wiliam got the best defender award putting a ton of pressure on the opposition attack.
