On Sunday 11.07.22 Watford RFC hosted its inaugural girls Summer 7’s touch Tournament.

With 10 local clubs and over 100 girls it was going to be a very busy and extremely hot afternoon of rugby. Gazebo’s pitched, players and refs ready, the games began.

With 3 games playing simultaneously it took a lot of organising and patience to run smoothly. The rugby didn’t disappoint either.

With some amazing ball skills and plenty of water breaks, the girls made it a memorable afternoon.

After 6 seven minute pool games Welwyn and Harpenden were on top in the U14’s category. Welwyn managing to beat Harpenden in an exciting final.

Tring/Aylesbury and Watford were in the U16’s final. The game was nip and tuck all the way with the score being 4 all at full time. Both teams agreed to play 3 minutes of extra time. Watford managing to score to take the narrowest of victories.

Girls rugby was the overall winner in what was a very well run tournament played in the right spirit.

The 2023 tournament promises to be even bigger and better.
