U9 Invincibles vs Stockwood Park Dunstable

U9 Invincibles vs Stockwood Park Dunstable

Fionn McGuinness23 Mar - 17:30

The U9's travelled to Stockwood for a triple-header showdown, taking on the hosts twice & battling Dunstable too! | Match Report by Coach James

Watford U9 Invinvibles travelled to Stockwood Park this week, where they played 3 games in total: 2 against separate Stockwood Park teams and one against Dunstable. The team continued their impressive form this season and really showed how they’re starting to gel as a team

All 8 Watford players played superbly and should all be proud of themselves. It was great to see them remembering to spread out and fill the pitch (most of the time), particularly in defence. The crowd enjoyed the attacking rugby on show, with all teams making the most of the sunny weather.

The first game against Stockwood was a close affair with both teams playing some great attacking rugby. Max made countless trademark barnstorming runs, sucking in multiple defenders trying to bring him down, but also working hard in defence, stopping defenders in their tracks. William led the defence with some huge hits, stopping Stockwood's runners in their tracks and scoring some lovely tries of his own. Reuben made the stockwood defence work hard with his darting runs, scoring some fantastic individual tries, but one in particular that he finished off after the ball had been through the hands of every Watford player ? Jack was always in support and ready to receive a pass, which helped him score some nice tries.

In the second game against Stockwood's other team, Watford looked very strong. Shai made some fantastic runs with the ball in hand, showing how much her ball carrying game has improved, with defenders finding it hard to stop her strong runs. Ari continued his return to rugby and looked strong again in both attack and defence, at one point on the end of a very big tackle from an opposing player, but he kept the ball perfectly and didn’t panic, presenting the ball back to his own team to allow them to continue their attack ?. Marco put in his usual dominant hits in defence but also scored some nice tries as well as demonstrating some great teamwork by passing the ball just as he could have scored himself, even when double points weren’t on offer! Leo seemed to run tries in from all over the park every time he got the ball with his effortless running to leave defenders for dust!

Watford dominated their final game against Dunstable with some tired bodies and minds, but still managed to prevent the opposition from scoring a single try in the whole game. Some lovely tries were scored, with Jack's final try a great piece of work to close out the game and a contender for try of the week.

All in all, a brilliant team effort which the coaches couldn’t be happier with. Especially with the continuous low-flying aircraft proving an exciting distraction initially!

Best defender - William.
Player for the week: Max - superb performances
Team player: Marco selflessly passing to others when he could have scored himself.
Try of the week: 1) Reuben finishing off a move that involved almost every Watford player. 2) Jack’s score in the final play of the game against Dunstable showed some lovely running and evasion.
