After a brief hiatus, 'The Team' returns! This weeks star turn, Mr James Horrocks

What made you join Watford?

As a new Watford resident, proximity, I can walk down to the club and easily be carried home after a Christmas Party or the infamous annual beer festival.

And more importantly, what made you stay?

I stayed at the club because of the potential that was shown last year. With the success of the second team winning their cup and the first team just missing out on both promotion and their cup, the players and myself are ready to go up a level this year.

Your best moment in a Watford shirt?

I’ve only played one season, so it would have to be the first team cup final at the Allianz Park. First time playing in a ground that size and on an artificial pitch, matched with the atmosphere created by the Watford fans that easily outnumbered everyone else, definitely made it a day to remember, regardless of the result.

And best WRFC moment off the pitch?

Again I’m limited to just a season worth of socials, the beer festival had probably been the highlight so far. However I did win a Nando’s voucher in the Dinner Dance raffle.

Favourite ground to play at?

Assuming this means away from Watford, I would have to say either Mill Hill RFC as last season they did and impressive four different food options after the game, or my home club of Barkers Butts RFC.

Best player you have played with or against?

I played on the wing against Manu Tuilagi in the Daily Mail Cup, back when his legs were normal size.

If you had to be stuck in a lift with any player, it would be….?

Ollie Hopkins, as a rare fellow Wasps fan in this part of the country we could spend the time discussing the superior quality of the team and the terrible quality of this upcoming season’s kit. Then as usual he would tire out and we could spend the remaining time having a nap.

And the one you would least want to share a lift with?

Luke Bees, I spend too much time with him already in confined spaces either in the changing room or sharing a lift, I can’t live with him and I can’t live without him.

Aims for the upcoming season?

My personal aim is to retain my place in a competitive first team, playing in any position I’m needed by the team. At club level I think the shared goal is to achieve promotion for both senior teams, especially for first team after getting so close last season.

Who would win in a fight between you and Sam H?

Sam has got the fitness and super mongue strength but I have the speed and brains. Outcome hinges on whether Sam turns up or how much baby oil he has on that day.

And finally… the best thing about WRFC is?

The best thing has to be the balance between seriousness and having a laugh. The majority of players are there to play rugby first and enjoy ourselves afterwards, recently proven in our narrow loss to St Albans in a preseason friendly, where the reaction to losing a relatively insignificant game showed that we care about improving and when the season is in full flow, we will be a club to fear.

Like the sound of Watford RFC based on what you've read? If you want to join a competitive club who welcome all players and enjoy themself off the pitch as much as they do on it, Watford is for you!
