Ben “Solly” Solomon: From Watford Rugby to Canadian Triumphs

Ben “Solly” Solomon, a former Watford rugby player, recently embarked on an exciting new chapter of his sporting career after relocating to Ottawa, Canada. Seeking fresh work opportunities and a change in lifestyle, Solomon soon found himself immersed in Canadian rugby, transitioning from union to league and making a name for himself on the national scene.

Upon his arrival in Canada, the rugby union season was about to begin, and Solly joined the Beavers, a local club, for a successful run in the Quebec Province 1 league. His strong performances caught the attention of selectors, leading to an invitation to trial for the East Canadian regional rugby league team. This squad represents all provinces on the east side of the country and competes in the highest level of domestic rugby league in Canada—the national championship against West Canada.

Solly’s contribution to the East team helped secure a national victory, reclaiming the championship title from West Canada. His impressive play during the tournament earned him a spot in the Canadian rugby league’s international training camp, where the team prepared for a much-anticipated clash against Jamaica on October 19th.

In the match against the Jamaican touring side, Solly was selected to start at scrum-half (9) for the Canadian Selects. Canada dominated the game, winning 38-8 through powerful play down the middle and clinical finishing. Solly expressed his pride and privilege in representing Canada, giving full credit to his teammates for their discipline, structure, and determination to secure the victory.

With this win, the Canadian Wolverines and Selects are now looking ahead to next year, aiming to extend their international winning streak and continue building on their success at the highest level of rugby league.

For Solly, the journey from Watford to Ottawa has not only been a personal adventure but a testament to his skill and adaptability in the rugby world, both at home and abroad.
