Watford u14s travelled to windy Royston in their latest league game, looking to maintain a 100% league record.

Words from George Hicks

The home side started the sharper of the two sides, immediately taking the game to the boys in red, white and blue. Royston were dominant up fron, asking all sorts of questions from a usually dominant Watford pack. Despite this, we managed to open the scoring thanks to fine work from Jimmy at the base of a retreating WRFC scrum. The no 8 picked from just outside the opposition 22, breaking several tackles to score under the posts. Aaron with the extras, 0-7 Wats.

This roused the hosts who came back strongly, three quick-fire but thankfully unconverted scores giving them a deserved 15-7 lead.

The lads were on the ropes, our unbeaten campaign in real jeopardy. With Watford needing someone to step up, Aaron produced a moment of magic taking a quick tap penalty from half way and beating 4 Royston defenders on his way to a fantastic solo score leaving Wats a point behind.

The Watford pack were beginning to go through the gears, the back row of Luke Max & Jimmy increasingly influential defensively and at the breakdown. Their fine work gave the backs a platform to work from, Aaron adding another 7 points to give the visitors the lead at the break.

We started the second half as we ended the first, swiftly earning a penalty on the Royston 22. Scrum half Ted's quick thinking saw him tap and pass to no 8 Jimmy thundering through to add his second of the match. Extras were this time added by Bradley to put us 15-28 up.

Things went from good to great, the men in red, white and blue gradually gaining the upper hand at the set-piece. Reece, George and Robert all took on board the advice from the coaching staff on the sidelines to demonstrate excellent body positions and begin to take a few balls against the head.

Aaron soon completed his hat trick, followed by Cam showing great gas on the wing to get himself on the score-sheet. From the sidelines, the most satisfying score of the game came last. The Watford pack managed to nick one against the head, quick hands from Ted, Archie and Aaron eventually resulting in Ted going over.

A great team performance against a strong, well-drilled Royston side who gave the lads a real battle.

Back of the Day: Aaron, scored a hat trick and kicked superbly for a personal haul of 23 points.

Forward of the Day: Jimmy, two tries and led from the front with some real physicality in both attack and defence.
